Officers and men of the Nigerian Army
Officers and men of the Nigerian Army, 1 Brigade, Sokoto, saturday,
raided the hideout of some suspected Boko Haram insurgents at the
Gidan-Igwai area of Sokoto metropolis.
Spokesman of the Brigade, Capt. Yahaya Musa, who confirmed this to
newsmen in Sokoto saturday, said the operation was conducted as part of
the on-going efforts to rid the state of the fleeing insurgents from the
volatile areas of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
He stated that the operation was conducted as a result of a tip-off from some good Samaritans in the city and its environs.
Musa also said it was part of the routine operations of the army to cleanse Nigeria of insurgency and other criminal activities.

“Sokoto is peaceful but unfortunately insurgents from other parts of
the country are fast making it a safe haven and we are battle-ready to
dislodge them. So, the operation by the army would be sustained and
intensified just like our sister security organisations are also doing
theirs, nationwide,” he said.
Musa said the army could not confirm any fatalities as at now but
disclosed that scores of arrests had been made, promising to make the
details of those arrested available in due course.
He however commended the residents for their usual support and cooperation and appealed to them to sustain the tempo.
He maintained that the task of ensuring the security of lives and property of Nigerians was a collective one.

“The task of ensuring security is not the responsibility of security
agencies alone but the public should assist with information in order to
achieve the desired objectives,” he added.
