Eto’o limped off in the first half of Cameroon’s 1-0 victory over Libya as Cameroon progressed to the final round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
The striker who failed to turn up for the post match press conference reportedly told his team mates in the dressing room that he has retired inform national duty to concentrate on club commitments.
The striker’s decision comes in the wake of reports that he was determined not to play against Libya in order to protest the decision by head coach Volker Finke not to hand starting berths to goalkeeper Carlos Kameni and Achille Webo.
The 32-year old striker who has been playing for the Indomitable Lions since 1997 has won two Africa Cup of Nations titles, an Olympic gold medal and participated at three World Cup tournaments(1998, 2002, 2010.
