Senate Rejects Sale Of National Assets
The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, September 27, voted against the sale of the country’s national assets as proposed by the Federal Government.
The decision came following a motion raised by Minority Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, urging the upper legislative chamber to reject the proposal for the sale of the nation’s assets.
According to Ndume, “I move that the senate oppose the sale of national assets to shore up our reserves.” Ndume said.
To confirm the decision, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki put the motion to a voice vote to which “the ayes had it”.
The Senate also wrote on micro blogging site, Twitter via its handle @NGRSenate that it: “rejected prayer 3 of the recommendations of the Ad Hoc Committee which sought for the sale of National Assets to shore up Foreign Reserve”.
Reacting to the development, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki commended the committee for a job well done and thanked his colleagues for their contributions.
Furthermore, Saraki noted that the senate has done its part in trying to set Nigeria’s economy on the right course.
In his words, “We have done our own parts in setting the agenda & our commitment to work with the executive on the 20 points agenda.
“Democracy is in action we will monitor the recommendations, we will do oversight & pass necessary bills on our own part,” Saraki said.
