Embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu has reacted to the withdrawal of Justice John Tsoho from his ongoing trial on treasonable felony.
Recall Justice Tsoho who is the second judge to withdraw from the case, made the announcement at the Federal High Court, Abuja , on Monday while reacting to an application by Kanu’s lawyer, Chuks Mouma, who accused him of bias in the handling of the matter.
Mouma noted that the court should hands off the proceedings in line with a petition written to the National Judicial Council, NJC, to protest the judges handling of Kanu’s trial.
“We are only asking the court to hands off; my client has lost confidence in this court.
“I understand that there is a letter to NJC, though I haven’t seen it and the CJ has replied saying that the matter will be investigated.
“I would urge you that you transfer the matter; I would suggest that it be sent back to the CJ,” Mouma said.
Recall Mr. Kanu through his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, asked the council to investigate Mr. Tsoho for giving parallel judgments on the same request.
In a new petition made available to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, and sent to the National Judicial Council, (NJC), Mr. Kanu accused Justice Tsoho of “judicial rascality” and called for his investigation by the council.
However reacting to the development on Monday, Justice Tsoho stated that Kanu’s case file has been returned to the Chief Justice of the Court, Ibrahim Auta for reassignment.
According to him, “I have no interest in trying your matter and I will return it to the CJ, but I will condemn the attitude of that counsel. I do not care if you take your case to another planet.
“This case is hereby transferred to the CJ.” Justice Tsoho said.
Similarly, Mr. Kanu also reacted to Justice Tsoho’s withdrawal, saying: “What we are fighting for is corruption.
“Wherever we see corruption, we fight corruption; it doesn’t matter who is involved.”
“Once there is corruption we fight it.”
‘The Lion of Biafra’ as he is referred to, also threw a shade at Justice Tsoho following his withdrawal of the case.
Kanu said: “When will he (the judge) be sacked? I want him to be sacked as a judge.”
The Biafran leader also thanked supporters for coming to the court to witness his trial, even as he urged them to increase in number when next he will be appearing in court.
In his words, “All of you that came out, we appreciate.”
“But as you can see, the court is empty, we would prefer that this court be full anytime we are coming here.”
Meanwhile, Kanu alongside his co-accused, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi are facing a six-count charge of treasonable felony, brought against them by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Although they have been granted bail twice by a federal high court sitting in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari’s led government has refused to obey the court orders raising doubts over the possibility of Mr. Kanu and his co-accused regaining freedom.
