Nigerian female singer and Best Female Artiste at the just concluded 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA), Yemi Alade, has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent comment that his wife belongs in his kitchen.
Recall that the President had reacted to an ‘explosive’ interview his wife granted the BBC, where she said she may not back her husband at the 2019 Presidential election unless he reshuffles his cabinet.
In his response, the president, who was in Germany on a three-day visit to discuss issues relating to security and economy, laughed and replied, “she belongs to my kitchen and living room and other room.”
Recall also that the President’s comment generated a lot of controversies locally and international, as some persons likened the President to American Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump.
Meanwhile Yemi Alade while giving an acceptance speech after winning the prestigious award at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg, said: “Give it up to all the African women in the building.
“We’re not meant for the kitchen alone, we are not meant for the living room alone, we are not meant for the other room alone.
“We are hardworking women and we belong to the society too.
“If not, I won’t be here receiving this award,” she opined.
