Mixed Reactions Trail The New Face Of Lagos

Mixed reactions has continued to trail the new face of Lagos under governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

When the Lagos state governor assumed office on May 29, 2015, one of the first steps he took was to visit the major traffic flashpoints in the state and together with his team, he worked out ingenious strategies not only to ensure free flow of traffic, but also to change the aesthetics of Lagos for good.


Two years into the administration, the result of the interventions of the Ambode administration is visible across the state.

As part of the activities marking the 50 years of Lagos, Gov. Ambode delivered some landmark projects, ranging from top class pedestrian bridges to lay-bys and segregated bus terminals which was commissioned between May 15 and  May 19, 2017.

While the Lagos state governor has been praised in some quarters for his landmark achievements, he has also been criticized by some Lagosians.

Speaking on the new face of Lagos, the Chief Executive Officer of Security 24/7, Richard Amuwa stressed that the mega city has truly changed in terms of infrastructure and the attitude of the people.

According to him, "truly Lagos has really changed in terms of infrastructure and attitude. What makes a city a mega city is the fact that there are visible infrastructures for everyone to see.
In a related reaction, a passerby along berger road name withheld commended the effort of the governor, adding that the governor still need to do more in the state not only in the area of bridge construction in strategic areas of the state but also in developing other roads that are bad within the state and providing more employment opportunity for Lagosians. While some citizens has acknowledged the development in Lagos, Jeffrey Wilkie, the head of graphics, Printserve limited, Yaba, Lagos, is of the opinion that Lagos has not fully developed to its full potential. Still on the new face of Lagos, a lecturer at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Jack Amaso also acknowledge that "Amode decision to light up Lagos has been an impressive one, adding that Lagos state is gradually becoming Paris but it is not there yet. He explain that this development has helped in the improvement of security in the state. However, citizens hope that the governor will continue to develop and improve the state in all sector to give the state the true new face it deserve and become the mega city.
